Tehran, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged on Tuesday to accelerate key energy and transport agreements, reinforcing a strategic partnership amid Western pressure.

In a phone call, the leaders stressed the need for "accurate and speedy" progress on joint projects, including power plant construction and transport infrastructure development, the Iranian presidency said. Pezeshkian described the completion of these bilateral agreements as a "main priority" for Tehran and called for regular follow-ups to ensure close coordination.

The Kremlin said the leaders also reviewed Iran's nuclear program and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. The discussion included mutual diplomatic support, with Putin criticizing recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Iran, according to the Iranian statement.

A Kremlin statement added that Pezeshkian condemned a drone attack that Moscow said targeted Putin's official residence in the Novgorod region on Monday, an incident the Kremlin blamed on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday denied the accusation, calling it "another lie from the Russian Federation." Enditem
