KABUL, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's national procurement commission has approved 29 projects valued at 18.5 billion afghanis (around 280 million U.S. dollars), the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs announced in a statement late Wednesday.
The commission, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, reviewed 44 proposed procurement projects across various sectors, ultimately certifying 29 of them.
Key approved initiatives include expanding cement production capacity in eastern Parwan province, constructing an iron processing plant for the Hajigak mine in central Bamyan province, building a 225-megawatt thermal power plant, erecting hospitals in 11 provinces, completing remaining work on 100-bed hospitals in Panjshir and Daykundi provinces, and implementing electricity transmission and distribution projects in multiple provinces, the statement said.
Separately, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced on Wednesday that the commission has endorsed a total of 562 development and infrastructure projects worth around 2 billion nationwide over the past year. Enditem
