LONDON, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chelsea has appointed Liam Rosenior as head coach of its men's team, with the Englishman signing a long-term contract through 2032.
"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Liam Rosenior as head coach of the men's team," the London club said in a statement on Tuesday.
Rosenior joins Chelsea on a five-and-a-half-year deal, with an option for a further season, replacing Enzo Maresca, who departed the club on New Year's Day.
The 41-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge following a successful spell abroad with RC Strasbourg, where he guided the French side to European qualification for the first time in 19 years during his debut season.
Prior to his move overseas, Rosenior held coaching roles in England with Hull City and Derby County, building a reputation as one of the game's emerging coaches.
Speaking after his move to the Premier League, Rosenior expressed pride at taking on the role.
"I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies," he said.
"My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves," he said.
His competitive debut in the dugout is set to come on Saturday, when Chelsea visits Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup, marking the beginning of a new era at Stamford Bridge. Enditem
