PHNOM PENH, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia reported 39 landmine and explosive remnants of war (ERWs) casualties in 2025, down 20 percent from 49 in the year before, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

"Eleven people were killed, 23 injured, and five amputated due to landmine and ERW explosions last year," Lang Kosal, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), told Xinhua.

He said that the victims were 27 men, six boys, four women, and two girls.

According to the spokesperson, from 1979 to 2025, landmine and ERW explosions had claimed 19,845 lives and either injured or amputated 45,280 others.

Cambodia is one of the countries worst affected by landmines and ERWs. An estimated 4 million to 6 million landmines and other munitions had been left over from three decades of war and internal conflicts that ended in 1998.

The Southeast Asian country is committed to clearing all types of landmines and ERWs by 2030. Enditem
