BRUSSELS, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- EU member states on Friday gave provisional backing to EU-Mercosur free trade deal in a qualified-majority vote, paving the way for the bloc to formally sign it in Paraguay, according to EU sources.
The pact is with the Mercosur bloc of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. The European Commission has described it as the largest trade accord the EU has ever concluded.
The agreement still requires approval by the European Parliament before it takes effect. Enditem
