HANOI -- Vietnam aims to have five state-owned enterprises ranked among the 500 largest companies in the world by 2045, the government portal reported Friday.

TOKYO -- A fire burned five houses in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture in eastern Japan, on Friday, leaving two people dead and one injured, local media said.
The fire department received a call shortly after 7 a.m. local time reporting visible smoke coming from a house in a residential area of Ashikaga City, public broadcaster NHK reported. (Japan-Fire)

MACAO -- The University of Macao (UM) will establish five science and technology faculties through a restructuring of part of its existing faculties, with the new faculties scheduled to officially commence operations on Aug. 1, 2026, the university noted Friday.
The plan, approved by its university council, includes the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Information Science and Computing, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Design. Student enrolment in science and technology disciplines is expected to reach about 14,500 in the future. (Macao-University-Science)

NEW DELHI -- At least nine people were killed and 40 others injured Friday after a bus carrying them skidded off a mountainous road and fell into a gorge in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, officials said.
The accident took place at Haripurdhar village of Sirmaur district, about 142 km southeast of Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. (India-Vus Accident) Enditem
