KABUL -- At least 20 people, including women and children, were transported to EMERGENCY's Surgical Center in the Afghan capital of Kabul following an explosion in the downtown area on Monday afternoon, with seven declared dead on arrival, the humanitarian organization said.

"To date, we have admitted twenty patients to our hospital," said Dejan Panic, EMERGENCY's Country Director in Afghanistan. "Among the injured are four women and one child. The wounded, several of whom are undergoing evaluation for surgical intervention, have sustained lacerations and contusions. Regrettably, seven individuals were deceased upon arrival." ISLAMABAD -- At least one person was killed and dozens of houses were damaged after a moderate earthquake struck northern Pakistan on Monday, officials said.

BRUSSELS -- Leaders of EU countries will hold an emergency summit here on Thursday to discuss U.S. threats related to Greenland, European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill said on Monday.
