TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Monday announced her plan to dissolve the House of Representatives on Jan. 23 for a snap general election set for Feb. 8.

ISLAMABAD -- At least 21 people have been confirmed dead in a massive fire at a shopping mall in Karachi, the capital of Pakistan's southern Sindh province, officials said on Monday.

A spokesperson for state-run Rescue 1122 said an extensive urban search and rescue operation continued at the Gul Plaza building, which was severely damaged by the blaze. KABUL -- At least 20 people, including women and children, were transported to EMERGENCY's Surgical Center in the Afghan capital of Kabul following an explosion in the downtown area on Monday afternoon, with seven declared dead on arrival, the humanitarian organization said.

"To date, we have admitted twenty patients to our hospital," said Dejan Panic, EMERGENCY's Country Director in Afghanistan. "Among the injured are four women and one child. The wounded, several of whom are undergoing evaluation for surgical intervention, have sustained lacerations and contusions. Regrettably, seven individuals were deceased upon arrival."
