TOKYO -- Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company on Wednesday restarted a reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture despite local opposition, marking the first operated by TEPCO to go back online since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

JAKARTA -- An Indonesian joint search and rescue team has found the black box of the ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed on the slopes of Mount Bulusaraung in South Sulawesi.

Dody Triyo Hadi, a military officer involved in the rescue operation, said on Wednesday that when the rescue team arrived at the crash site, the black box was found intact inside a section of the aircraft's tail. (Indonesia-Plane-Crash)

ISLAMABAD -- The death toll from a shopping mall fire in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi climbed to 60 after at least 30 bodies were recovered from a shop of the multi-storey building, officials said on Wednesday.

The bodies were recovered from the mezzanine floor of the shopping mall, senior police official Syed Asad Raza told Xinhua, adding that several people are still missing and a search operation is continuing to recover them. (Pakistan-Karachi-Fire)

SEOUL -- South Korea's former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on Wednesday was sentenced to 23 years in prison for aiding and abetting the insurrection of the impeached former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
