VIENNA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with international organizations in Vienna and their member states, firmly uphold the existing international system, and enhance the authority and status of the United Nations (UN), a Chinese envoy said on Monday in Vienna.
Li Song, China's permanent representative to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna, made the remarks while addressing the reception for the Chinese lunar new year and Spring Festival held at UN Vienna.
More than 800 people attended the reception, including officials of UN and other international organizations in Vienna, permanent representatives and diplomats as well as international staff.
Li said the Global Governance Initiative offers a Chinese solution for building a more just and reasonable global governance system, helping revitalize the UN's core position and leading role. China will vigorously promote the return of development issues to the center of the global governance agenda, enhance the representation and voice of the Global South, and make greater contributions to the UN's cause of peace and development.
Gerd Mueller, director general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, said the UN system is currently under pressure, and China's role is very important as a stable partner for the UN system in the world, for stability, peace and freedom.
Representatives from other UN agencies also expressed their gratitude for China's strong support for multilateral cooperation in various fields.
The reception also featured traditional Chinese lion dances, violin performances, choral singing, and calligraphy exhibitions.
The upcoming Chinese Year of the Horse will begin on Feb. 17, 2026, according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Enditem
