OSLO -- Despite the resumption of diplomatic talks with the U.S. government, Washington's desire to take over Greenland remains, the island's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in an interview with Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) published Tuesday.

Nielsen said communication with Washington has been reestablished through diplomatic channels. "Now we can stop throwing mud at each other through the press," he noted.

A joint working team has already held its first meeting, he added, but declined to disclose further details. (Greenland-U.S.-PM)

PARIS -- The Paris prosecutor's office said on Tuesday that the French offices of social media platform X were being searched as part of an investigation.

The prosecutor's cybercrime unit is conducting the searches with the support of Europol and the cyber unit of the National Gendarmerie, it said in a post on X, adding that the action is related to an investigation opened in January 2025.

The investigation was launched after a French lawmaker contacted prosecutors over concerns about allegedly biased algorithms on the X platform, France Info reported. (France-X-Investigation)

TOKYO -- The defense team for Tetsuya Yamagami, the man sentenced to life imprisonment for the fatal shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has decided to appeal the ruling, Japan's public broadcaster NHK reported on Tuesday.

The Nara District Court on Jan. 21 handed down a life sentence for Yamagami, 45, who was convicted of murder and other charges for shooting Abe with a homemade gun in July 2022 while the former leader was delivering a campaign speech on a street in Nara. (Japan-Abe Shooting-Appeal) Enditem
