BUJUMBURA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and six others injured in Bujumbura Province, western Burundi, as torrential rains triggered a landslide on Thursday afternoon, local media reported Friday.
According to Burundi National Radio and Television, Kirama Zone Chief Fulgence Nzosaba said that four houses were "completely destroyed at Rutunda by a landslide following heavy rains mixed with violent winds and hailstones."
Seven people were confirmed deceased at the scene, one died at Muramvya Hospital, and another body was recovered from the mud on Friday, Nzosaba noted.
He warned that neighboring houses and infrastructure remain at risk with visible cracks on their walls, adding that their occupants need to be relocated.
