TOKYO -- The number of influenza cases in Japan is seeing a resurgence, exceeding the alert threshold after easing in December 2025, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said on Friday.
A total of 114,291 cases were reported across Japan during the week ending on Feb. 1, averaging 30.03 cases per designated medical institution, which exceeded the alert level of 30 and was 1.8 times higher than the previous week, according to the ministry. (Japan-Influenza)

SEOUL -- A cargo ship has returned to a port in South Korea after a fire broke out in a vehicle aboard on Friday, Yonhap news agency said.
It was reported to the coast guard at around 5:34 p.m. local time (0834 GMT) that the fire occurred at a vehicle on the 9,952-ton cargo ship sailing in waters about 17 km north of the port in the southern resort island of Jeju. (South Korea-Cargo Ship Fire)

ISLAMABAD -- At least 31 people were killed and around 170 others were injured after an explosion ripped through a mosque during Friday prayers in Pakistan's federal capital city of Islamabad, police and government officials said.
Confirming the casualties, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon said that the explosion happened in the Shi'ite mosque located in the Shehzad Town area of Islamabad, prompting authorities to impose a state of emergency in all the major hospitals nearby. (Pakistan-Blast) Enditem
