ADEN, Yemen, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) issued a decree on Friday evening announcing the formation of a new cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani, according to the official news agency Saba.

The PLC issued the decree approving the new cabinet, which comprises 35 ministers, weeks after the resignation of the previous government headed by Salem Bin Buraik amid deep divisions within Yemen's internationally recognized administration.

An official from the Yemeni government, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the formation of the new cabinet is part of the PLC's efforts to strengthen political and administrative stability and to reactivate government performance across key sectors in the southern provinces.

The official added that "Saudi Arabia has pledged substantial financial and military support to the new government," noting that cabinet members are expected to return to the southern port city of Aden in the coming days to resume their duties.

Political disputes and internal disagreements between pro-government factions had delayed the announcement of the new cabinet for more than three weeks, despite the PLC assigning al-Zindani last month to form a new government, according to the official.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of the government. The prolonged war has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Enditem
