KABUL, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday condemned an explosion that struck a mosque in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, the ministry said in a statement.

"The Islamic Emirate considers attacks that violate the sanctity of mosques and sacred religious rites, and that target worshippers and civilians, to be in contradiction with Islamic and humanitarian values, and condemns them in the strongest terms," according to the statement.

The ministry extended its condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured.

According to Pakistani police and government officials, at least 31 people were killed and around 170 others were injured when the blast ripped through the mosque during Friday prayers. Enditem
