NEW DELHI -- The death toll in a coal mine blast in India's northeastern state of Meghalaya rose to 32, local media reported Thursday.
The blast took place on Feb. 5 inside a coal mine at Mynsyngat-Thangsko in East Jaintia Hills district, about 70 km east of Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya. (India-Blast)

VIENTIANE -- An airplane hospital jointly developed by the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) recently arrived in the Lao capital Vientiane to carry out its first overseas public welfare medical mission.

TOKYO -- The number of reported crimes in Japan in 2025 rose 4.9 percent from the previous year to 774,142, up for the fourth straight year, the National Police Agency (NPA) said Thursday.
Thefts remained the most common offense with 513,931 cases, accounting for more than 60 percent of all crimes and marking an increase of 2.5 percent from a year earlier, while shoplifting climbed 7 percent to 105,135 cases, half of which involved food being stolen, according to preliminary figures released by the NPA. NEW DELHI -- India's Defence Acquisition Council on Thursday cleared proposals worth 39.7 billion U.S. dollars to buy Rafale fighter jets, combat missiles and airship-based high altitude pseudo satellite.
