SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume logged a double-digit growth last month thanks to strong demand for locally-made semiconductors, central bank data showed Friday.
The export volume index jumped 28.3 percent in January from a year earlier, continuing to increase since November last year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
In terms of volume, export for computers, electronic and optical devices surged 39.1 percent in January on a yearly basis on the back of robust demand for semiconductors used for artificial intelligence (AI) chipsets.
Export volume for farm goods, oil products, chemicals, machinery and transport equipment spiked in double digits.
The export value index soared 37.3 percent in January from a year earlier, faster than an expansion of 14.8 percent in the previous month.
The import volume index mounted 14.5 percent in the cited month, and the import value index swelled 12.5 percent.
The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 8.9 percent in January on a yearly basis owing to the import price fall. Enditem
