MOSCOW -- "The most powerful and massive" drone attack was carried out by the Ukrainian military in Russia's Bryansk region since the start of the conflict, damaging energy infrastructure facilities, regional governor Alexander Bogomaz said on Monday.
He further said the attacks lasted for more than 12 hours from the morning on Feb. 15 until around 8:00 p.m. local time (1700 GMT), while Russian forces intercepted and destroyed more than 170 fixed-wing drones during the time period. (Russia-Ukraine-Drones)

GENEVA -- Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said Monday on social media that he had "just completed in-depth technical discussions" with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in preparation for nuclear negotiations scheduled to take place in Geneva on Tuesday.
According to statements of Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi arrived in the Swiss city on Sunday with a delegation of diplomatic and technical officials to participate in the second round of indirect negotiations with the United States. (Iran-U.S.-IAEA)

CAIRO -- The navy forces of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have launched a drill in the Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Monday.
The main goals of the drill are to "assess the readiness of the IRGC's naval units, review security plans and possible scenarios for a mutual military response in the face of security and military threats in the Strait region, as well as make smart use of Iran's geopolitical advantages in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman," Tasnim reported. KABUL -- Around 22.9 million people in Afghanistan, including approximately 12 million children, nearly half of the population, have required humanitarian assistance over the past year, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in its latest report, according to media coverage by TOLO news on Monday.

ADDIS ABABA -- African Union (AU) Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Bankole Adeoye on Sunday called for a permanent ceasefire in Sudan and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Briefing reporters on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, Adeoye said the situation in Sudan is "the worst humanitarian crisis globally," and that the conflict, which began in April 2023, remains "virtually unreported" despite its scale and impact on regional stability.
