SYDNEY, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- A man has been hospitalized with serious injuries after he was shot multiple times in Sydney's western suburbs on Tuesday morning.
A police statement said that emergency services were called to reports of a public place shooting in Greenacre, 14 km west of central Sydney, at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Officers arrived and were told that a 44-year-old man had been shot outside a home by the occupants of an SUV before it drove away.
The victim, who has been identified by local media as a former professional rugby player, was treated by ambulance paramedics for multiple gunshot wounds before being taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
Police were called to a street in a neighboring suburb a short time later and found an SUV on fire.
The fire was extinguished and the vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Crime scenes were established at both locations and detectives have commenced an investigation into the incidents. Enditem
