KABUL -- A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan on Friday at around 5:40 p.m. local time, with strong tremors felt in the capital, Kabul.

TOKYO -- Two people went missing after a cargo ship collided with a recreational fishing boat off the coast of central Japan's Mie Prefecture on Friday, local media reported.
According to the Japan Coast Guard, a 499-ton cargo vessel struck a recreational fishing boat shortly before 1 p.m. local time in waters off Toba, Mie Prefecture, causing the smaller vessel to capsize, public brochures NHK reported. (Japan-Boat Collision)

MANILA -- Rain-induced landslides in the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental in the southern Philippines have killed at least seven people, authorities said Friday.

SEOUL -- Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol apologized to the public on Friday for his shortcomings following a lower court's decision to sentence him to life in prison for insurrection charges stemming from his martial law declaration.
