JERUSALEM/BEIRUT -- The United States deployed more military assets to Israel's main airport and evacuated its diplomats from Lebanon on Monday, signaling a potential escalation with Iran just days before the two sides are set to resume nuclear talks.

TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Monday warned that any attack by the United States against Iran, regardless of its scope and scale, will be considered an act of aggression and followed by consequences.
Baghaei made the remarks at a weekly press conference in Tehran. He said if the renewed indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States lead to a war, Iran's armed forces will give an appropriate response and are vigilantly ready round the clock to defend the country. DAMASCUS -- An Islamic State (IS) attack killed four members of Syria's internal security forces at a checkpoint west of the northern city of Raqqa on Monday, a Syrian security source said.
The source told state news agency SANA that the attack targeted the Sabahiya checkpoint, without providing further details on how it was carried out or whether the assailants were captured or killed. (Syria-IS Attack-Raqqa)

RIYADH -- Nearly 20 countries, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation jointly condemned on Monday recent Israeli decisions to expand unlawful control over the West Bank.
In a joint statement, foreign ministers of countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, among others, along with the secretaries-general of the regional organizations, denounced a series of measures that they said would reclassify Palestinian land as so-called Israeli "state land," accelerate settlement activity, and further entrench Israeli administration in the occupied territory.
