BAGHDAD, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized during a phone call Friday that negotiations are the most appropriate way to resolve outstanding issues, amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
An Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement said that Araghchi briefed Hussein on the latest developments of the Geneva negotiations between Iran and the United States, including the progress of the talks and the schedule for upcoming technical meetings.
Hussein stressed the importance of continuing dialogue, as both ministers emphasized the need to avert the dangers of escalation and war in the region and to maintain regional security and stability, according to the statement.
Tensions remain high in the region as the United States has deployed a military buildup near Iran. Iraq stated last month that it rejects the use of its territory or airspace to launch attacks against any country. Enditem
