MUSCAT, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Iran is open to "serious efforts" aimed at de-escalation and a return to dialogue, according to a statement from Oman's foreign ministry.
Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi received a phone call from Araghchi, during which the Iranian side expressed appreciation for Oman's diplomatic role and its continued efforts to reduce tensions and support negotiations.
According to the statement, Araghchi said Iran remains committed to peace and is open to serious de-escalation efforts that could help contain escalation and restore regional stability.
Albusaidi reaffirmed Oman's support for dialogue and diplomatic solutions to address tensions and promote stability, the statement said.
The United States and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran on Saturday, killing Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several other senior officials.
The joint attacks prompted retaliatory strikes by Iran against Israeli and U.S. targets across the Middle East. Enditem
