VIENTIANE, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Laos has assured the public that fuel supplies nationwide remain stable and sufficient as the ongoing unrest in the Middle East affects global energy markets.

The Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce issued a notice on Monday, confirming that fuel imports continue without disruption and that existing domestic reserves are adequate to meet current demand.

While closely monitoring domestic stock levels and global market trends, the government is coordinating with fuel importers and distributors to ensure smooth transportation and distribution.

However, officials have urged the public to use vehicles only when necessary and avoid excessive fuel consumption to help sustain a balanced supply.

To prevent panic buying, the ministry has issued a directive prohibiting the sale of fuel in bottles or containers exceeding five liters.

To address potential challenges promptly, a recent meeting brought together representatives from the ministry and fuel importers to review the possible impact of the Middle East crisis on domestic fuel supply and prices. The discussions covered short, medium, and long-term measures, including alternative import sources, to safeguard the country's energy security. Enditem
