KABUL, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Despite escalating tensions and ongoing conflict in Iran, commercial transit and trade activities between Afghanistan and Iran continue uninterrupted at the Islam Qala border crossing in western Herat province, according to local officials on Monday.
Mawlawi Hazrat Zaeem Agha, commissioner of Islam Qala, reported that daily operations are proceeding smoothly, with an average of 600 cargo trucks departing and about 700 entering through the border each day.
"The transfer of commercial goods is occurring without any difficulties," Agha said.
Meanwhile, officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment echoed these sentiments, confirming that bilateral trade relations remain stable, noting that proactive measures are being taken to diversify Afghanistan's trade partnerships with other countries, aiming to mitigate potential shortages of food supplies should the situation in Iran prolong.
Official data indicated that annual trade exchanges between the two neighboring countries total around 4 billion U.S. dollars, with a significant portion facilitated through the Islam Qala port. Enditem
