LUANDA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Angolan President Joao Lourenco has called for greater respect for international law and renewed efforts to reform key multilateral institutions amid what he described as an ongoing reconfiguration of the global order, the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) reported.
Speaking Thursday in Luanda at the opening of the 10th meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), Lourenco said the party leadership must pay close attention to major transformations shaping international politics.
According to the Angolan leader, the world is experiencing a period of profound change in the international order, marked by conflicts and the increasing use of military force by major powers, including some members of the United Nations Security Council.
The Angolan president reiterated his support for reforming multilateral institutions, including the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization.
He also called for strengthening multilateralism and ensuring the effective implementation of the UN Charter as a foundation for maintaining international peace and security.
The meeting of the MPLA Central Committee is expected to review the convocation of the party's 9th Ordinary Congress and deliberate on its agenda, general framework, methodology and schedule.
Participants are also expected to approve the establishment of a National Preparatory Commission tasked with coordinating and overseeing different stages of preparations for the congress. Enditem
