CAIRO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi stressed the need for close coordination to contain escalating regional tensions, Egypt's foreign ministry said on Monday.
The talks in Muscat marked the third leg of a regional tour by Abdelatty aimed at de-escalation, as U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran and Tehran's retaliatory attacks continue to reverberate across the region.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt's solidarity with Oman in facing what he described as "security challenges," the ministry said. He also praised Oman's leadership for its mediation efforts, commitment to regional stability, and restraint during the current crisis.
Al Busaidi, in turn, commended Egypt's "pivotal role" in safeguarding Arab national security, according to the statement.
The two ministers reviewed the rapidly evolving military situation and underscored the need for diplomatic solutions to prevent the conflict from widening. Abdelatty also called for launching a serious Arab dialogue on post-war security arrangements in the region.
Separately, Abdelatty met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said on Monday. During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of coordinating regional and international efforts to contain tensions and de-escalate the situation, Oman's foreign ministry said, adding that such efforts would help bolster regional and global security and stability.
The visit to Oman followed stops in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates as part of Egypt's efforts to ease regional tensions. Enditem
