BANGKOK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's cabinet has set regulations on overtime pay and compensation for employees working over eight hours per day who are in duty of guarding premises or properties, starting from April 24, an official announced on Thursday.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana, said that these regulations will come into force to improve the quality of life of workers and ensure justice for employees, especially security personnel.
Key provisions state that employers must pay overtime at a rate of not less than 1.25 times the hourly wage for work exceeding eight hours a day on normal working days, and not less than 2.5 times the hourly wage for overtime work on rest days.
In addition, even in scenarios where a work arrangement involves more than eight hours per day, such as shift work, employers are still obligated to pay compensation at the above-mentioned rates for any hours worked beyond the eight-hour daily limit, provided the total weekly working hours do not exceed 48 hours, to ensure genuine fairness in employees' remuneration.
"This adjustment reflects the government's commitment to upgrading Thailand's labor standards to align with actual working conditions, particularly for groups that work long continuous hours, ensuring they receive appropriate compensation and an improved quality of life," Lalida said. Enditem
