TEHRAN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Iran has suspended the exports of certain steel products, including different kinds of slabs and sheets, until May 30, the country's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) said on Monday.

In a statement published on its website, the TPO said the decision was made based on the resolutions passed by the country's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade as well as the Supreme National Security Council.

It listed the banned items as steel slabs as well as hot, cold, rolled, tinned, galvanized, coated and colored steel sheets and straps, stressing that if the state of emergency continues, the export ban will be extended.

Iran had previously prohibited the overseas sales of certain chemicals, petrochemicals and polymers.

Two Iranian major steel plants, one located in central Isfahan province and the other in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, were targeted by the United States and Israel during their 40-day war against Iran. The attacks have caused significant damage, leading to the suspension of operations by certain production units.

The U.S. and Israeli attacks also hit a number of petrochemical complexes in the country, having caused disruptions to their operations.

On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and U.S. bases and assets in the Middle East.

A ceasefire was achieved between the warring parties on April 8, followed by lengthy talks between the Iranian and U.S. delegations in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, which failed to lead to an agreement. Enditem
