AMMAN, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's King Abdullah II said Tuesday that regional stability depends on securing Palestinian rights and achieving a two-state solution that would establish an independent Palestinian state, according to a statement from the Royal Court.
He made the remarks during a meeting in Amman with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The king reiterated Jordan's rejection of Israeli measures aimed at "creating new facts on the ground" in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, adding that Jordan would work to build international support to counter them.
The two leaders discussed the "escalating unilateral actions" in the West Bank and called for stronger international efforts to stop settlement expansion and moves toward Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian territory.
Abbas, for his part, praised Jordan's support for Palestinian rights and its diplomatic efforts to rally international backing.
Both leaders emphasized the close ties between Jordan and Palestine and said they would continue coordination and consultation on shared interests and broader Arab concerns. Enditem
