NAIROBI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's economic growth edged down to 4.6 percent in 2025 from 4.7 percent in 2024, weighed by weaker performance in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors, the national statistics agency said on Wednesday.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) said that the growth in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector slowed to 3.1 percent in 2025, down from 4.4 percent the previous year.

"The slower growth was largely attributed to varied weather patterns during the year, characterized by above-average long rains and below-average short rains, resulting in mixed crop performance," KNBS said in a report.

The agency also noted that the manufacturing sector expanded by 2 percent, compared with 3 percent growth in 2024.

KNBS said the sector recorded mixed performance, with growth mainly driven by the non-food subsector, while the food subsector registered slower expansion.

Meanwhile, growth in the transportation and storage sector slowed to 3.7 percent from 4.3 percent in 2024.

According to KNBS, activity in the sector was supported by increased road and railway transport, as well as services incidental to water transport. Enditem
