LONDON, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Britain's healthcare spending went up 3.9 percent in 2025 after adjusting for inflation, accounting for a higher share of gross domestic product (GDP) than the previous year, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Wednesday.
The increase was faster than 3.8 percent in 2024, according to the ONS. It also noted that healthcare expenditure accounted for 11.4 percent of the country's GDP in 2025, compared with the 11.1 percent share in the previous year.
In 2025, approximately 345 billion pounds (466 billion U.S. dollars) were spent on healthcare in the country, including both government and non-government expenditure, which equates to around 5,000 pounds (6750 dollars) per person.
Britain's Labour Party has vowed to build a National Health Service that fits the future by taking measures such as cutting waiting times and allowing more appointments, increasing the number of cancer scanners and adding mental health staff.
