MANILA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Philippine Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said on Wednesday that the Senate was "under attack," amid tensions surrounding reports of an attempted arrest of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa.
Cayetano did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged attack or identify those responsible for it.
Gunshots rang out inside the Philippine Senate complex on Wednesday night, triggering chaos and confusion inside the building. The situation later calmed down, according to Senate officials.
However, security personnel continued assessing the incident after agents from the National Bureau of Investigation allegedly attempted to enter the Senate building. The Senate remains locked down and under heightened security.
Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza said there have not yet been any casualties reported. Enditem
