KAMPALA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will be represented by three athletes in the season opener of the 2026 IAAF Diamond League on Saturday in Shanghai, China.
Peruth Chemutai, Uganda's Olympic gold medalist at Tokyo 2020 will lead the team.
Chemutai will battle in the 3,000m steeplechase race, while Charity Cherop runs in the women's 5,000m race. Kenneth Kiprop will compete in both the men's 3,000m and 800m races.
"I have prepared well and I hope to start the season on a high in China. Being the first Diamond League of the season I am sure it will be very competitive," Chemutai told Xinhua online.
Dominic Otuchet, President of Athletics Uganda told Xinhua on Friday, "The three athletes have been training well ahead of the season opening Diamond League in China and we expect them to register good results and also improve on their personal best times." Enditem
