WASHINGTON -- Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 45-day extension of their ceasefire that took effect last month, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department said Friday.

GAZA/JERUSALEM -- Three Palestinians were killed and 26 others injured on Friday in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City, Palestinian medical sources said, as Israel said it struck a senior Hamas military commander.

LIMA -- Peru will hold a presidential runoff after no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote in the April 12 election, according to results released Friday by the National Office of Electoral Processes.

With all ballots counted, Keiko Fujimori of the right-wing Popular Force party led with 17.18 percent of the vote, followed by Roberto Sanchez of the left-wing Together for Peru party at 12.03 percent. THE HAGUE -- The Dutch government announced on Friday that the hantavirus-hit cruise ship MV Hondius is expected to arrive at the Port of Rotterdam next Monday, with most crew members set to undergo a six-week quarantine in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

"Rotterdam has been designated in the Netherlands as the port for the handling of infectious diseases in shipping," according to a letter sent to parliament on Friday and signed by Sophie Hermans, Dutch minister of health, welfare and sport, and Tom Berendsen, the country's foreign minister.
