BERLIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich have extended their contracts with Bayern Munich until June 2027, leaving the German record champions set to continue with their established goalkeeping set-up alongside Jonas Urbig for another season, the club announced on Friday.
The decision ends speculation over whether Neuer would retire when his current deal expires, with Bayern also retaining 37-year-old back-up Ulreich as they shape a three-man unit to help Urbig develop.
40-year-old Neuer said he had taken his time before committing to one more campaign. "The conditions are right here. We can beat anyone with this team, I enjoy going to Sabener Strasse every day and I deliver my performances," Neuer said.
"In our goalkeeping team, we stick together and try to raise the bar higher and higher, to keep pushing each other and prepare as well as possible for matches."
Bayern president Herbert Hainer said Neuer occupied "a very special place" among the club's outstanding goalkeepers, calling him "the face not just of one, but of two generations" and "an outstanding role model on and off the pitch".
Neuer joined Bayern from Schalke in 2011 and has captained them since 2017. He has won 13 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, eight German Super Cups, two Champions League trophies, two Club World Cups and two European Super Cups.
Bayern has already reclaimed the Bundesliga title and, despite their Champions League exit, can still complete a domestic double against Stuttgart in the German Cup final at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on May 23. Enditem
