MELBOURNE, May 18 (Xinhua) -- A man has died following a house fire in the Ballarat suburb of Wendouree, about 120 kilometers northwest of Melbourne in Australia, police said on Monday.
Emergency services were called to a block of units on Marigold Street in the Australian state of Victoria at around 6:30 a.m. local time after reports of a fire.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and located the man inside the unit, who was removed from the property unresponsive and treated at the scene, but could not be revived, according to a police statement.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, and a crime scene has been established, the statement said.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the man was 62 years old. Neighbors called emergency services and tried to contain the blaze before crews arrived. Enditem
