JAKARTA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The foreign ministers of 10 countries, including Indonesia, on Monday condemned in the strongest terms renewed Israeli assaults on the humanitarian Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla.

In a joint statement issued on the X account of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, the ministers of Türkiye, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, Maldives, Pakistan and Spain voiced grave concern over Israel's interventions against previous flotillas in international waters and denounced the continuation of hostile acts targeting civilian vessels and humanitarian activists.

They said assaults on vessels and the arbitrary detention of activists constituted blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law.

The ministers also expressed serious concern over the safety and security of civilian participants in the flotilla, calling for the immediate release of all detained personnel and full respect for their rights and dignity.

Calling on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, the ministers urged concrete steps to protect civilians and humanitarian missions and ensure accountability for the violations.

On Monday, Israeli naval forces intercepted ships from the Global Sumud Flotilla from reaching Gaza, multiple Israeli media outlets reported.

A previous flotilla from the Global Sumud Flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces on April 30 near the southern Greek island of Crete. Two activists were detained for days before being released. Enditem
