KABUL, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed and another seriously injured when a powerful storm triggered the collapse of their home in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Monday evening, the provincial government office said on Tuesday.
The disaster occurred in Abdulkhail area of Achin district, where security personnel and local residents recovered the victims' bodies from the rubble of the destroyed house, the office said in a statement. A 10-year-old girl was pulled out alive from the debris and transferred to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
The storm struck amid a broader pattern of severe weather across Afghanistan. In April alone, relentless heavy rainfall, flash floods and violent storms claimed more than 200 lives, many of them women and children, while injuring over 250 others, according to official figures. Enditem
