YANGON, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar held a durian fair at Myay Padaythar Garden in Yangon on Tuesday to promote the country's durian industry and support efforts to enter the global market.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung said that one of the main features of the fair was the exhibition of high-quality, high-yielding, and commercially viable durian varieties from various regions and states, giving dignitaries and the public an opportunity to observe them firsthand.
Through this fair, Myanmar must not only systematically document the traditions and history of its durian cultivation but also formulate and implement a strategic roadmap for future production to elevate the industry to an internationally recognized standard, he added.
He also urged all stakeholders participating in the fair to work together to cultivate both native and foreign durian varieties to ensure Myanmar durians successfully enter the global market.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, representatives of local durian associations, durian growers, and local and foreign durian enthusiasts attended the event.
Myanmar has more than 60 durian varieties. As of 2025, the country's durian cultivation area had reached approximately 24,000 acres, U Min Naung said. Enditem
