ISTANBUL, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities had issued detention warrants for 25 high-profile figures as part of an expanding investigation into illicit drug use and trafficking, local prosecutors announced Thursday.
The Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul said in a statement that a dedicated investigation is being pursued against individuals accused of facilitating, hosting, or consuming illegal narcotics.
Among those targeted by the warrants are prominent entertainment figures, including actress Serenay Sarikaya and singer-songwriter Mabel Matiz, alongside other well-known artists and performers.
Security forces have so far detained 14 of the suspects across 24 locations in Istanbul and one in the southwestern province of Mugla, according to the state broadcaster TRT, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining individuals. Enditem
