WELLINGTON, May 22 (Xinhua) -- One person died after a fire tore through a house in Auckland, New Zealand, on Friday morning, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the suburb of Onehunga and several occupants managed to evacuate the house. One body was located later inside the property, police said in a statement.
The fire posed significant risks to responders, including the potential for structural collapse, fire, and emergency acting assistant commander Kenton Rusbridge told Radio New Zealand.
Rusbridge noted the presence of hoarded materials inside the house, which likely intensified the fire and complicated both evacuation and firefighting efforts.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched. Enditem
