DOHA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed the latest regional developments with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, according to a statement by the Emiri Diwan, the administrative office of the emir.

During a phone call, their discussions focused on support for diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan to prevent further tensions in the region and preserve international peace and security, the statement said.

They also stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue channels to address current issues, safeguard maritime security and strategic waterways, and ensure the smooth flow of global energy supplies and supply chains.

According to the statement, the emir reaffirmed Qatar's consistent position in support of peaceful solutions and diplomatic initiatives aimed at containing the crisis and enhancing regional stability.

The phone call came amid continued regional tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and growing international concern over the potential impact on global energy markets and maritime trade routes.

Qatar, a major liquefied natural gas exporter, has repeatedly called for de-escalation and stressed the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and regional stability. Enditem
