CAPE TOWN, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people were killed in separate shooting incidents in South Africa's Western Cape Province over the weekend, including six men who died in two attacks in Cape Town townships, according to local police.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape said it was investigating two separate shooting incidents in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, in which six men were killed within hours of each other.

In the first incident, three men aged between 20 and 24 were shot and killed inside an informal dwelling in Khonkxa Street, Makhaza, on Sunday evening at about 7:30 p.m. local time. Family members reportedly heard gunshots and later found the victims with gunshot wounds inside the structure.

In the second incident, three men in their thirties were shot in Endlovini during the early hours of Monday morning. The victims later died at a medical facility.

"The suspects in both incidents fled the scenes and have yet to be arrested, while the motives remain under investigation," the SAPS said in the statement.

Police also said a team of detectives had been tasked with pursuing all available leads.

Meanwhile, according to an earlier statement by Western Cape police, seven other people were killed in five separate shooting incidents in Khayamandi near Stellenbosch, a town about 50 km east of Cape Town, between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Provincial police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said detectives were investigating possible links between the attacks and whether a single group was involved. Enditem
