ULAN BATOR, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia observed the International Day of UN Peacekeepers on Friday, paying tribute to all women and men serving in UN peacekeeping operations and honoring the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative ceremony was held at the National Park in Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia.
Currently, more than 590 Mongolian military personnel are serving in nine UN peacekeeping operations, including around 80 women service members, according to the Mongolian Armed Forces.
Since Mongolia first deployed two military officers to UN peacekeeping missions in 2002, more than 23,000 personnel, including approximately 1,300 women, have participated in peacekeeping operations around the world.
The Asian country, with a population of 3.5 million, is one of the world's leading per-capita contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. Enditem
