ISLAMABAD, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's consumer price index (CPI) inflation rose to 11.66 percent year on year in May, official data showed on Monday.
On a month-on-month basis, CPI inflation increased by 0.52 percent in May, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The highest annual increase among major expenditure groups was recorded in transport, which surged 36.78 percent from a year earlier. Prices in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 16.78 percent, while miscellaneous goods and services increased 15.03 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 7.93 percent year on year, with sharp increases recorded in wheat, wheat flour, onions, tomatoes and meat.
During the July-May period of fiscal year 2025-26, average inflation stood at 6.69 percent compared with the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the PBS said. Enditem
