JERUSALEM, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said its air defense systems have intercepted two missiles launched from Iran, and are working to intercept a second missile barrage from Iran on Sunday night, as more sirens are heard in northern Israel.
The attacks came after Israel carried out deadly airstrikes on the Lebanese capital of Beirut earlier in the day.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
Schools in northern Israel were canceled for Monday, Israel's state-owned Kan TV news reported.
Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf vowed to "halt the negotiation process" and "engage in direct confrontation with the enemy" if Israeli attacks against Lebanon continue.
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, also vowed on X to give "a decisive and painful response" to Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs. "Look at the sky of the occupied territories tonight," he wrote. Enditem
