YEREVAN, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday claimed victory after preliminary results showed his Civil Contract party leading the parliamentary election with 49.825 percent of the vote.

The voter turnout of the election held on Sunday came to around 59 percent, according to the country's Central Electoral Commission. The Civil Contract party received more than 727,000 votes, taking the lead after the commission counted ballots from all 2,005 polling stations nationwide.

Pashinyan congratulated his party on the victory, saying it "will have a parliamentary majority and will form the government."

After casting his vote on Sunday, Pashinyan told Xinhua that Armenia's strategic partnership with China "will continue to develop further," expressing confidence that the bilateral ties "will be further deepened."
