ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's economy expanded by 3.7 percent in the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a record size of 452.1 billion U.S. dollars, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Thursday while presenting the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26.

NEW DELHI -- Three Indian seafarers who had been reported missing after a U.S. attack on a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman have been confirmed dead, India's federal Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said Thursday.

TOKYO -- The release of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean resumed on Thursday afternoon after a system anomaly alert that had halted operations was traced to a possible valve malfunction in a water storage tank, Kyodo News reported.

MANILA -- At least 47 people were killed, 31 missing and 688 injured after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mindanao, the Philippines, on Monday, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday.

The NDRRMC said the quake has affected more than 75,300 households, or over 346,000 people, and more than 45,000 affected residents have been displaced, with over 12,600 houses sustaining damage. The quake also triggered 45 related incidents, mainly landslides. (Philippines-Quake-Aftermath)

HONG KONG -- The People's Bank of China, Bank Indonesia, and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a cooperation framework aimed at promoting bilateral transactions in Indonesian rupiah (IDR) and offshore renminbi between Indonesia and Hong Kong, according to a press release published by the HKMA.

Under the MoU, a bilateral currency transaction framework will be implemented to facilitate the direct exchange and settlement of IDR and offshore renminbi in cross-border trade and investment activities amongst corporates and institutions in Indonesia and Hong Kong.
