CAIRO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Friday discussed the latest developments in the U.S.-Iran negotiations during separate phone calls with his Pakistani and Iranian counterparts, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In his call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to push toward an agreement, expressing hope that the current opportunity would be seized to end the war and support regional stability.
Abdelatty also discussed the issue with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who briefed him on the latest negotiation developments, the statement said.
He affirmed Egypt's support for an agreement that helps reduce tensions, end the war, and enhance regional security and stability.
In a post on social media platform X on Friday, Araghchi said a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States on ending the war "has never been closer."
U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States had "just made a great settlement of the war with Iran," with an agreement expected to be signed "over the next few days."
Over recent weeks, Iran and the United States have exchanged several peace proposals through Pakistan's mediation, and have been working to finalize an MoU to end the war. Enditem
